CONF)ENT1AL
Journal - Office.of Legislative Counsel Page 3
Tuesday - 29 May 1973
11. 1 1 Talked to Chairman George Mahon, House
-A?ppropr:iations Committee, who told me that his schedule was such Mat he
would not be able to meet with Mr. Colby today or tomorrow and that he
would have to work out a time for later. He told me also that he would like
to have Mr. Colby meet with the members of the Special Subcommittee rather
than just himself for an informal chat. It is his feeling that this would be
a good way to start off with the group.
Late in the day Ralph Preston called and scheduled the meeting for
2:00 p. m. Monday, 4 June 1973, for Mr. Colby and the Special Subcommittee.
Preston told me that in all probability Representatives Sikes and Minshall
will not be able to attend at that time. He also suggested that it would be well
if Mr. Colby would give the group a general overview of the matters that
had been developed in the various hearings with the Agency on the Watergate/
Ellsberg matter.
During the evening I received a final call from Ralph Preston who
told me that the Second Supplemental Appropriation bill is on the floor of the
Senate and that scheduling of the conference meeting between the House and
Senate committees could interfere with the Monday meeting with Colby. I
thanked him for the call.
12. Received a call from William Ashworth,
Arms Contro International Law and Organization Subcommittee staff,
Senate Foreign Relations Committee, who asked if the transcript of the
meeting of Friday, 18 May 1973, of the Subcommittee could be made available
for his review during the day tomorrow.
13. Talked to William Hogan, House Armed
Services Committee staff, who. told me that the transcripts of the meeting
of 24 May 1973 have been returned from the reporters and are available for
pick up.
14. Called Representative Hebert's
office, Chairman, House Armed Services Committee, and reconfirmed
the meeting for Mr. Colby with Chairman Hebert for Wednesday, 30 May.
