1. I I Talked to Bill Hogan, House Armed
Services Committee staff, both Saturday and Sunday concerning Chairman
Nedzi's, Intelligence Subcommittee, desire for hearings on Monday to
review with General Walters the information set forth in his memorandums
for the record concerning various White House and other meetings.
3. I IMet with Ralph Preston, House Appropriations
Committee scurL, rri, se to the Chairman's earlier request and gave him
a copy of Lawrence Houston's memorandum of 9 May 1973, subject: "Prohibition
of Police Powers and Internal Security Functions, " together with a copy of
.O/DDCI, affidavit.
I reviewed with Preston and left with him a copy of the Hoover Report
of June 1970 together with Richard Helms' memorandum and attachments of
28 July 1970. Preston thanked me for the prompt response on these documents
and told me: once again that we need to keep the Chairman up-to-date on an
hourly basis, if necessary, during the hearings on this matter.
4. In response to a request from Mary McLaughlin,
Assistant to ar rcy, ie of Staff, Senate Foreign Relations Committee,
the Committee transcript of the Director's briefing of 20 June 1972 was
delivered to Elmira Vogtmann, of the Committee staff. The transcript was
returned at the end of the day.
