Approved For Release 2004/12/16 : CIA-RDP75B00380R000100060047-8 C011HOEN HAL Journal - Office of Legislative Counsel Page 2 Thursday - 27 September 1973 7. I talked with Guy McConnell, )Senate Appro- priations Committee staff, about the Chairman's desires on rescheduling the Director's briefing of the Intelligence Operations Subcommittee. McConnell said Chairman McClellan would like to defer this until after Senate action on the procurement bill, which McConnell expects to be completed by next Tuesday. After checking with Mr. Colby I suggested Wednesday or Thursday afternoon, 3 or 4 October (with a preference for Wednesday). I also indicated that if neither of these days were acceptable, it was possible that Mr. Colby could juggle his schedule next Wednesday morning in order to arrange the briefing then. I also told McConnell that if the Chairman desired, the Director would be happy to make the NSCIDs available to Jim Calloway, of the Committee staff, or to McConnell for their inspection. I added that Mr. Colby feels it will take about a half hour to complete the summary of the NSCIDs which he started this morning. McConnell said he would check on this, but commented that he thought the discussion that resulted from this morning's summary was very worthwhile and he hoped the Chairman would ask Mr. Colby to continue that summary at the next meeting. I talked with McConnell about the Chairman's request for a statement as to what could be said publicly about Agency activities and asked him if he thought the Chairman expected that statement to be in fact a sanitization of the NSCIDs or whether he thought it would be acceptable to provide a statement of those Agency activities which could be disclosed to the public. McConnell said he was quite sure the Chairman was not looking for a sanitization of the NSCIDs and McConnell would recommend that the statement which we prepare be drawn up without reference to specific NSCIDs. 8. II checked with Jack Ticer, Senate Armed Services Committee staff, regarding the progress toward the printing of Mr. Colby's confirmation hearings. Ticer said they were now in John Goldsmith's hands and he hoped they would go to the printers very soon. I asked Ticer again if he would please give us an alert at the time the page proofs are sent to GPO for final printing so we could remind GPO of our desire to ride the jacket for 700 copies. Ticer promised to do this. 9. I I Delivered to the office of Senator Birch Bayh (D., Ind.) a sealed envelope from Mr. Maury.
