25X1 13. Dave Abshire, Institute of Strategic Studies,
called to say that his Institute was planning to take on 25X1
25X1 II but would very much appreciate our checking to see i He seemed to be
on t e level.
25X1 14. Senator Stuart Symington called to say
that he wanted to make sure we gave our unclassified answers to Senator
Proxmire's questions to the Senator as soon as possible. I said he already
had them.
25X1 15. At 5:15 p.m. this afternoon Senator Stuart
Symington called to say he was much concerned about the Southern Air Transport
situation and that "my lawyer" says it looks like CIA is trying to exert improper
influence on CAB and favor Williams. He asked what we cared what happens
to the airline and why we should stick our noses in its disposition anyway if
we didn't want it or need it. I told him I was not well up on it. He said Senator
William Proxmire had received complaints which he had passed on to Symington
and that Paul Seligman(?) had contacted Proxmire's office in the matter.
Symington very emphatically said that if we didn't want to keep the airline we
shouldn't try to influence who gets it. I said I would pass this on to Colby and
Houston.
25X1 16. Talked to Dorothy Fosdick, Senate Permanent
Investigations Subcommittee staff, who told me that Senator Jackson would
appreciate a report on the personnel case she told me about the first thing

Subcommittee staff, House Armed Services Committee, a meeting was scheduled
with Representative William Bray (R. , Ind. ) for 11:30 Tuesday, 31 July 1973,
after Bray's return from the district. Hogan indicated that as senior Republican,
Bray has a number of items he wishes to discuss.
