Friday - 30 March 1973
6. 1 Received a call from Kay Lakeheart, on
the staff of Senator Pete V. Domenici (R. , N. Mex.). She said a helicopter
company in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico (she did not recall the name
of the company) has asked their office whom they should contact in CIA regarding
their interest in air contracts in Southeast Asia and elsewhere in the Far East.
The inquirer made reference to Air America in this connection. After checking
with I suggested to Miss Lakeheart that any inquiry concerning
Air America should be directed to Mr. Paul C. Velte, President of Air
America, at 1725 K Street, Washington, D. C. I added that any correspondence
directed to the Agency should be addressed to the Director. She said she was
sure the name and address of the Air America office would be sufficient.
7. Jim Calloway, Senate Appropriations Committee
staff, raised with me te possibility of having the Director appear before
the Defense Subcommittee for a "threat" briefing some time in the next week
to 10 days. See Memorandum for the Record.
8. Accompanied the Director and Messrs.
Brownman, is er an who appeared before the Intelligence Subcom-
mittee of House Armed Services Committee, in support of legislation to
increase our CIARDS retirement quota. Transcript on file in OLC.
9. I I Accompanied the Director in a meeting with
Senator Stuart Symington who, as acting Chairman of the Senate Armed Com-
mittee in the absence of Senator Stennis, agreed to hold hearings of the full
Armed Services Committee at 10:00 a. m. on 5 April, on legislation to increase
the CIARDS retirement quota.
Symington said he would appreciate our checking into the history of
legislation a couple years ago imposing a manpower ceiling on the Defense
Intelligence Agency.
