6.1 IMet with Frank Slatinshek, Chief Counsel,
House Armed Services Committee, and discussed with him the Agency
retirement ceiling. It is Slatinshek' s opinion that until the Committee
shakes down a little more such matters will have to be held in abeyance.
It is his present feeling that any review of an Agency retirement matter
may well open up the whole retirement program for review by the Committee
so that it may be some time before such legislation should be presented to
the Committee.
I briefed Slatinshek on my earlier meeting with Herb Roback, Staff
Director, Legislation and Military Operations Subcommittee of the House
Government Operations Committee, and reviewed with him the New York
Times article concerning construction of a Soviet aircraft carrier.
Slatinshek had no questions on the carrier item. I also briefed him on
Chinese communications systems and Soviet SS-X-18 ICBM.
Representative James C. Corman (D., Calif. ), called and inquired
as to the address of the Agency that a constituent's company that wanted
to do business with the Agency could write to. After checking with
Logistics, I called her back and gave her the information.
