5. (Confiential - JGO) Talked to Frank Slatinshek, Chief Counsel,
,House Armed Services Committee, about the Leggett correspondence
concerning Air America. Slatinshek agrees that answers to questions
relating to Agency operations should not be relayed to individual Congress-
men for their use in responding to constituents and asked that we respond
to his own letter of 14 September noting this point but outlining the basic
information requested for the Intelligence Subcommittee.
Slatinshek told me also that there is considerable interest in the
press reports of the Brezhnev detente statements. He does not feel it is
necessary to have a special briefing at this time but asked if I would ascertain
the facts for him. Richard Lehman, OCI, has been advised.

6. (Confidential - JGO) Received a call from William Hogan, Counsel,
Intelligence Subcommittee, Rouse Armed Services Committee, who asked if
I would ascertain whether there had ever been an employment or other Agency
7. (Confidential - JGO) I accompanied OCI, to a
meeting with Pat Holt, Senate Foreign Relations Committee staff. -
briefed Holt on the Chilean situation, events leading to the present crisis,
and some considerations of what lies ahead in the immediate future.
Although Holt had many detailed questions, they were within the scope of the
briefing. There are no followup actions from today's briefing. Holt was
quite complimentary about the presentation.

8. (Confidential - JMM) Accompanied the Director who met with
Chairman J. W. Fulbright, Senate Foreign Relations Committee, in response
to the Chairman's letters of 10 July 1973 and 8 August 1973 inquiring about
Agency support of a Russian emigre organization. See Memorandum for Record.
