Approved For Release 2004/03/17: CIA-0,DP75B00380R000100110019-3 25X1 25X1A 25X1A 25X1A Journal ?? Office of Legislative Counsel Tuesday - 27 November 1973 Page 2 3? Talked to Cliff Hackett, Subcommittee on Europe, about his request for appearance before the Subcommittee. I told him was back at work, but I thought it would be better if we could defer his meeting with the Subcommittee until he had had a chance to get his feet on the ground. Hackett said that Ambassador Davies' appearance had been rescheduled for Thursday at 10:30 a. m. and suggested that also 25X1A be present at that time along with George Churchill, of Davies' staff. As I had mentioned to Marian Czarnecki, Chief of Staff, House Foreign Affairs Committee, I told Hackett that it had been our experience that our briefings were much more useful if they were given individually and not as part of a joint session. He said this was acceptable to him, but he would like to at :Least have immediately follow the Subcommittee's session with Davies to avoid calling two separate meetings. I told him I thought this could be worked out satisfactorily and would be back in touch with him. 25X1 4? I I John Goldsmith, Senate Armed Services Committee s a' ,ca~led to say e would be leaving Friday for another trip to Southeast sia. He said the "ostensible purpose" of his trip is the interest in the POW/MIA situation. However, he said that with the likelihood of a further stepup of activity in Southeast Asia he would be looking at other matters also. He said his itinerary is not firm but he plans to be in Saigon on 4 December, Vientiane on 7 December, and Bangkok from 9-11 December. I offered to have him come out to the building for a situation briefing from some of our people before his departure and he welcomed this suggestion. (He will be 25X1A out tomorrow at 4 p. m.. ) 25X1A 25X1 5. Called Cliff Hackett, House Foreign Affairs 25X1A Committee staff, and explained that and I would be glad to appear 25X1A before the Subcommittee on Europe to a about but we did not wish to participate jointly with State witnesses since we felt it important to keep intelligence carefully separated from policy discussions. Hackett accepted this and said that since Roger Davies and George Churchill 25X1A were appearing at 1030 hours, I and I should arrive about 1100 hours.
