Approved For Release 2005/08/03 : CIA-RDP75B0038OR000100110081-4 STAT STAT STAT Journal - Office of Legislative Counsel Page 2 Monday - I October 1973 5. I I Received a call from Dale de Haan, Counsel, Senator Kennedy's Subcommittee on Refugees and Escapees. Mr. de Haan said the Senator has received information to the effect that Kim Tae-Chung is currently under house arrest but that his physical condition is satisfactory. Senator Kennedy asked de Haan to check with us to see if we had any information on his status including whether anyone has been in communication with him. After checking with Bill Nelson, DDO, and I advised de Haan that as far as we can determine the accounts which have appeared in the Japanese press regarding Kim Tae-Chung's current status are essentially accurate, i.e., he is under house arrest in Seoul, he apparently is in satisfactory physical condition and members of his family have been permitted to visit him and have reported that he is well. Mr. de Haan and I also discussed the present situation regarding the case which appears to be that Seoul and Tokyo are discussing the possibility of some agreement on the case which would presumably include an apology to Japan by the Korean government. Mr. de Haan thanked me for checking on this. 6. Jack Ticer, Senate Armed Services Committee staff, called to say they had sent Mr. Colby's open confirmation testimony to GPO for printing today (Jacket number 99-275). He also said that our copy of the page proofs was available if we want to pick it up. We have advised Acquisitions and Printing Services Division to reconfirm our order to ride the jacket for 700 copies. STAT STAT cc: O /DD C I Ex. Sec.
