LLM) Kathy Nelson, Assistant to Senator Stuart
Symington (D. , Mo. ), called and reported that Symington said we could not
delete his question concerning from the galleys of Mr. Colby's
confirmation hearings. Symington said we could change the answer, however.
In response to my query, Miss Nelson saw no reason why we could not
incorporate in the confirmation hearings material on Phoenix which Mr. Colby
had supplied for the record in the 10 July budget hearing before the Intelligence
Operations Subcommittee of Senate Armed Services Committee.
2, I GLC) Received a call from Rich Gilmore, Staff
Member, Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Multinational Corporations,
He said he is interested in our evaluations and assessments regarding
European standards development. He made specific reference to the
standardization of electronic components and mentioned a tripartite accord
on this subject and the existence of an organization known as CENELEC. He
said he was not interested in the differences of opinion between the US
and European countries but was interested in the political and economic
aspects of the situation. I told Gilmore I would. look into this and be back
in touch with him. Maurice Ernst, OER, is checking.
