Ed Braswell, Chief Counsel, Senate Armed Services Committee, called to say that the Committee was having executive hearings on Laos on the morning of Wednesday the 27th on which Agency and Defense witnesses would appear jointly. (See Memo .for the Record. ) Mr. Colby's confirmation hearing is scheduled for open session at 10:00 a. m. on Monday, 2 July. Braswell mentioned a number of questions which he thought might come up at that time. (See Memo for the Record.) 6. Richard Weiss, in the office of Ambassador Handley (Special Assistant to Secretary of State for Narcotics Matters), called to report that they were lining up courtesy briefings for Representative Lester Wolff (D., N. Y.), Chairman of the new Ad Hoc Subcommittee on Narcotics, House Foreign Affairs Committee, by repre- sentatives from various agencies in the Executive Branch who deal on these matters, and wanted to know if we could nominate an Agency representative for this purpose. I told Weiss that I would refer his request to appropriate authorities but that in general it was our posture in view of our nonpolicy charter that we deal directly with various congressional committees and he said he would have no problem whatsoever if we give him the go-ahead to pass the word to Chairman Wolff that an Agency representative will be 13leased to meet with him for a briefing at his convenience. is following up on this. 7. 1 __J In response to a call from Jim Woolsey, General Counsel, Senate.
