10. Met briefly with Ed Braswell, Chief Counsel,
Senate Armed Services Committee, and left with him papers containing comments
on S. 1935 (Senator Proxmire's proposed amendments to Section 102 of the
National Security Act) and on his letter of 12 June 1973 to the Acting Chairman
of the Senate Armed Services Committee recommending the publication of
National Security Council Intelligence Directives. Braswell said he would
study these over the weekend and we could talk about them further next week.
I also left with Braswell a suggested Agency response to the Committee's
request for a report on S. 1547 a bill introduced by Senator Humphrey to
establish a Joint Committee on National Security. I told Braswell we had
drafts of proposed responses to other legislation which had been referred to
us by the Committee which we would be pleased to discuss with him at his
convenience.

Atlas" to: Elizabeth Nash, in the office of Senator Warren G. Magnuson;
Mike Owen, in the office of Representative Marjorie S. Holt; and the
receptionist in the office of Senator Milton Young. I told Senator Young's
receptionist that John Maury would be in touch with the Senator regarding
a briefing for the Senator on China.
14. Delivered a suggested reply for a constituent,
I Iwho asked some questions about the Agency, to Kimberly
Johnson, in the office of Representative Ronald A. Sarasin.
15,. In response to his call, delivered some
informational material about the Agency to Coleman Conroy, in the office
of Representative Ralph Metcalfe. The information was for a constituent
who is writing a paper on CIA.
