6. Picked up from Jack Ticer, Senate
Armed Services Committee staff, copy # 3 of the transcript of the testimony
of Tom Charles Huston on Monday, 21 May 1973.
7. Met with Ralph Preston, House Appropriations
Committee, who told me he had passed the briefing note on 25X1
to Representative John Rhodes (R. , Ariz. ) with the request that it be returned
as soon as he has reviewed it. Preston advised him that an appropriate note
for his use will be prepared if it's desired. Preston told me in passing that
the transcript of Mr. Colby's briefing on the Watergate is out to the Committee
members for their individual review and correction before transmission to the
Ervin Select Committee for their review.
I also reviewed with Preston the briefing note for Representative Robert
Sikes (D. , Fla.) on the 1115th Military Airlift Squadron and brought him up-to-date
on several items of current intelligence information.
8. Accompanied to
a meeting. with Dr. John Brady, House Foreign Affairs Committee staff, to
update the information previously provided concerning illicit foreign narcotics
traffic. By present considerations Dr. Brady will be the principal staff
assistant for the newly formed two-member ad hoc Committee on narcotics,
of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
25X1 9. Jim Woolsey, General Counsel, Senate Armed
25X1A Services Committee, talked to and me questioning the necessity for
deleting from the transcripts of Agency witnesses regarding the Watergate matter
25X6 all references to F_ I He argued that it was
difficult to delete these references since it couldn't be shown that they damaged
the national security. We pointed out that to make any such reference public,
especially when top White House officials were quoted as referring to the
25X6 necessity for protecting Agency operations was bound to raise hackles
25X6 I and could be an irritant to merican relations.
pointed out that tactically such operations were protected by the 1947 Act.
