6. Met with Mike Van Dusen, Consultant,
-Wear mittee of House Foreign Affairs Committee, and gave him
a translation of a news item on one land briefed him on various25X1
items of background information. The information available, however, was
insufficient to identify present whereabouts. As a separate matter,
Van Dusen asked if it would be possible to schedule a briefing for very late
this month or immediately after the 4 July recess for the Near East Subcom-
mittee to cover the military situation and Soviet influence in the Near East.
Chairman Hamilton would appreciate if emphasis could be given to the
Persian Gulf, South Asia and the Indian Ocean, DDI 25X1A
Executive Officer, has been advised.
7. Made arrangements with Guy McConnell,
Senate Appropriations Committee staff, for Messrs. Clarke, 25X1A
to meet him for lunch this Wednesday, 20 June.
McConnell suggested 11 July as the date for our budget presentations
(community in the morning and Agency in the afternoon) and this date was
confirmed after checking with Mr. Colby. Messrs. Brownman, Clarke, and
have been advised.
I checked with McConnell to see if the Committee had been approached
and had approved a proposal which we understood had been made by Mr. Buzhardt,
of DOD, with respect to the handling of the I in FY 74. McConnell
verified that Buzhardt had discussed the matter with them and had obtained
Committee approval.
