1. Accompanied General Lew Allen, D/DCI/IC,
and IC comptroller, in briefing the Intelligence and Research
and Development Subcommittees of House Armed Services Committee on
the intelligence community budget and, the portions thereof set forth in
military authorization bills. See Memorandum for the Record.
2. After the Committee meeting above,
Chairman Lucien Nedzi, Intelligence Subcommittee of House Armed. Services
Committee, asked, about the Intelligence Evaluation Committee referenced
in the President's press release of 22 May 1973. He said this is a Committee
that did not appear to fit in the communit structure outlined by General
Allen. After checking with II told Nedzi that this Committee
was formerly chaired by Assistant Attorney General Mardian and that it
has been an active Committee. He asked me to run down the present
chairman, the Agency representative on the Committee, and its origins
in executive order or whatever.
3. Scheduled a meeting for 2:00 p. m. Friday,
25 May, Senate Foreign Relations Committee staff room, 4219 Dirksen Office
Building, for briefing of John Ritch and Seth Tillman, Senate Foreign
Relations Committee staff, on Middle East political and economic situation
re the energy crisis. ONE, has been advised.
