SUBJECT: Response to Senator Jackson's Questions
on the Middle East
1. There is no evidence that any Saudi Arabian
Lightning aircraft are stationed in Egypt.
earlier this year stated that Saudi Arabia
planned to station some of their 40 Lightning aircraft
in Egypt. however, has confirmed
that the Saudis have not, and will not send any of
these planes to Egypt.
2. Libya and Saudi Arabia do not provide any
type of air force training to any foreign nationals.
3. Libya receives pilot training from several
countries. In Libya, training is provided by Pakistan,
Egypt, and France. Libyan pilots also train abroad
in Greece, Egypt, and Algeria. Training of Libyans
in France apparently has been terminated.
4. Saudi Arabia receives pilot training in-
country from Egypt and Pakistan. The training of
Saudi Arabian pilots by the UK has been terminated.
