Approved For Release 2004/03/17 : CIA-RDP75B00380R000200100073-3 Journal - Office of Legislative Counsel Page 5 Wednesday - 30 May 1973 19, (Unclassified - JMM) Talked to Ralph Preston, Staff Assistant House Appropriations Committee, who explained Chairman Mahon had now decided he would like to have a formal session of the Special Group at 2: 00 p.m. on Monday, 4 June to hear from Mr. Colby. He said probably only the Chairman and Representatives Whitten and Cederberg and Preston would be present. He said the Chairman would like, among other things, for Colby to review the history of any Agency involvement in the Ellsberg affair, the Watergate matter and related developments. I raised with Preston the recurring suggestion that the total Agency and/or community budget be made public. He feels Mahon would still oppose release of a figure for the Agency, but would be less opposed to an overall community figure being made public. 20. (Unclassified - GLC) Advised Richard Perle, staff of the Senate Permanent Investigations Subcommittee, that I would be accompanying nd a member of his staff for the briefing this afternoon on Soviet energy matters. I told him further that I was following up on the other questions he had raised the other day and would be in touch with him in due course. I specifically mentioned that Bruce Clarke had said there was nothing of great significance which had taken place in the strategic field since his last briefing but Clarke would be happy to come up and talk to him at his convenience on this subject if he wished, 21. (Unclassified - GLC) James Calloway, Counsel, Senate Appropriations Committee, called to confirm Bill Colby's appointment with Chairman McClellan at 9:00 a, m. on Friday morning, In this connection I mentioned to Calloway that Colby would discuss the subject of revealing intelligence community budget figures when he meets with the Chairman on Friday and would hope that any meeting between McClellan. and Senator Young and Senators Scott and Mansfield could be deferred until sometime after Friday. Calloway said he was sure this could be arranged and would take care of it. CRC, 7/17/2003 Approved For Release 2004/03/17 : CIA-RDP75B00380R000200100073-3
