7, I I Called George Murphy, Joint Committee on
Atcmin Energy staff, -regarding the article by Dan Thomas son a appeare
in yesterday's Washington Star-News. I told Murphy that since he had been
a point of contact for Senator Baker with us in reviewing our sensitive file
perhaps he could tell me if he knew anything about the 22 page study referred
to in the article. Murphy said he had no information about such a document,
if, in fact, it existed.
In the course of our conversation Murphy mentioned that he had not
had an opportunity to make a report to Senator Baker on his review of our
sensitive file prior to the Senator's departure to Puerto Rico last week. He
said he will be in touch with Senator Baker when he returns and plans to make
a low-key suggestion to him that he might want to consider direct contact
with Mr. Colby if he has any concerns or reservations about the Agency's
relationship to any of the events in the Watergate affair. I stressed to Murphy
that I was not suggesting that he do this, but of course, he was at liberty to 25X1
make whatever suggestion he wished.
9. Hand-carried to Ed Braswell, Senate Armed Services
Committee staff, Mr. Colby's letter of 28 November transmitting responses
to certain questions raised during his briefing of the Committee on 6 November.
Braswell said he would place the letter and its attachments with the transcript
of that hearing for safe keeping.
I mentioned the Dan Thomasson article from yesterday's Washington
Star-News to Braswell and told him while we could not be certain what Thomas son
was referring to he had come rather close to an item of some sensitivity and
I refreshed his memory on a closely held, program. 25X1
