Met with Drury Blair, Immigration and Naturalization Subcommittee staff, Senate Judiciary Committee, and gave him a series of unclassified reports concerning 25X1C This is in response to his request of Tuesday, 9 October. 25X1 C 25X1A 9. called and asked to talk to someone from the Agency. He stated that he has lived in Europe for many years and is an expert on trade with East Europe and the Soviet Union. He recently returned from Europe and there is a particular matter that he wants to relate. He claims to be a close friend of Senator Edward Brooke (R., Mass.) and asked that arrangements for the interview be made through Chris, in Senator Brooke's office. I told him that I would see if such an interivew could be arranged and would call Chris. I subsequently called 5X1A and after a check of his files, he advised that there 25X1A but he has never been of direct interest or been contacted 5X1A by the Agency. He saw no objection to a representative of DCD interviewing and asked that Senator Brooke's office provide a time and telephone 5X1A number where can be contacted to arrange the interview. I sub- 5X1A sequently called Chris, in Senator Brooke's office. She stated that she would relay the 25X1 25X1 25X1 10. I I During an encounter at a private dinner last evening, Senator Charles Percy asked me about the situation in the Middle East. In response I briefly summarized the contents of the latest Situation Reports. 11. I I Accompanied the Director and who briefed the Inter-American Affairs Subcommittee of House Foreign Affairs Committee on recent developments in Chile. See Memo for Record and '.transcript. 12. Representative Robert Steele (R. , Conn. ) asked if someone would come over and brief him on Russian wheat exports. I said I thought we could find somebody to do this, although I was not sure we were the main Washington authority on the matter.
