Approved For Release 2005/06/22 : CIA-RDP75B0038OR000300010080-4 Journal - Office of Legislative Counsel Page 2 Thursday - 22 February 1973 3. Talked to Eleanor Holms, Appointment Secretary for Senator Henry Jackson (D. , Wash. ), to arrange a date for Ted Shackley and me to see the Senator regarding a matter of some importance on which the Director would appreciate his views. An appoint- ment was made for 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Senator's office. 4. After a discussion with 25X1 OER, called J. Sourwine, Chief Counsel, Senate Internal Security Sub- committee, and told him that we could not provide an official figure as to the amount of gold reserves in the Soviet Union. I referred him to the figure given in the publication, Gold-1971, by David Lloyd-Jacob and Peter Fells, which is accepted as a good ball park figure. He appreciated the information and told me that Mr. Brand, in the Library of Congress, was preparing a study on world gold reserves should we be interested. Sourwine had requested this information for an un- named senator who is proposing legislation for the U. S. to mine and hoard gold. (See Journal for 20 February 1973. ) 5. CIA congressional intern in the office of Senator Bob Packwood (R., Oreg.), called concerning a constituent who said the Government had welshed on a finder's fee for gold bullion which he helped locate following World War II. Under the facts, it was suggested that contact the Department of the Army Congressional Liaison. 6. Talked to Art Kuhl, Chief Clerk, Senate Foreign Relations Committee, who told me that hearing dates have been scheduled for the Multinational Corporation Subcommittee for 20, 21, 22, 27, 28, and 29 March. No other Committee business has been scheduled. Kuhl said that the Chairman hopes to have the organization of the Committee finished by the end of this week. Ted Shackley, WH Division, has been advised. 7. Talked to Mike Finley, Inter-American Affairs Subcommittee staff of House Foreign Affairs Committee, and tried to work out a date with him for a current intelligence briefing for the Subcommittee. It was finally determined that it will be necessary to go over to the second or third week of March. Finley will call me. r r~ r Ilk Approved For Release 2005/06/22: `CIA-RDP75LIe80R000300010080-4
