Talked with Darrell St. Claire, Assistant Secretary of the Senate, and told him the former employee I had talked with him about on a hypothetical basis some time ago was Administrative Assistant. I added that we had given the matter a lot of thought and decided0 should show his Agency employrI on official documents of the Senate but should not advertise it. St. Claire thanked me very much for closing the matter out with him and said again that the only call that would be needed would be a call from the office of the Financial Clerk to confirm the fact of his employment. 4.. In response to his request of yesterday, I delivered to Marian Czarnecki, Staff Consultant, House Foreign Affairs Committee, I __1 Internal Security Subcommittee, 25X1 Called Jay Sourwine, Chief Counsel, Senate and told him that our office had no informa i X1 indicating t.hat_a member of his staff had called us expressing an interest in possible that no return call from the Agency was necessary. He understood that we never had any involvement in I told him that as far as Sou rwine we knew I F appeared satisfied. and said he would not pursue the matter any further. 6. Met with Mr. S.hean, in the office of Representative Phillip Burton (D. , Calif.), concerning the request for any unclassified material we might have on the Peoples' Republic of China. He said the request was for a constituent who is a close friend of Mr. Burton's who hopes to resume his business contacts in China. I furnished him a copy of the reference aid publication listing Chinese Government Officials after clearing it with the DDI and Library of Congress and this satisfied his request. 7.
