6. (Internal Use Only - PLC) J. Sourwine, Chief Counsel,
Senate Internal Security Subcommittee, called and asked if there was
an official U. S. estimate of USSR gold reserves. The information
is for an unnamed senator who is preparing legislation proposing
the establishment of a U. S. corporation to mine gold and other valuable
metals for hoarding by the U. S. Government.
7. (Confidential - GLC) In response to his inquiry I called John
Goldsmith, Senate Armed Services Committee staff, and advised him of
the announcements today of a cease fire agreement for Laos. -I asked
him if he wanted anything further and he said not at this time. He said
he would prefer to wait a day or two until the terms of the agreement are
published and then if he needs anything further he will call us.
