(Confidential - GLC) Briefed Ed Braswell, Chief Counsel, Senate Armed Services Committee, on the status of negotiations for the sale o SAT. I told Braswell that the settlement date was 31 December. I told him we anticipated some negative press play on this but felt we were going to be criticized no matter how we handled it. Braswell said he .thought t-he only basis on w}iich we might be vulnerable was the question of the lack of com- petitive bidding. Briefed Braswell on information we had received from D. C. police sources regarding inquiries that have been made of them on the handling of civil rights demonstrations and other similar situations in the metropolitan Washington area and especially any relationship which the Agency had to these. I told Braswell that we had provided assistance to the D. C. police as we had to other U. S. organizations. At that point in time, but following the criticizm which had been levied against the Agency (as Braswell knew), Mr. Schlesinger liad terminated this kind of support and we felt this story was now old hat although various members of the press might still try to get some rnilage out of it. I also briefed Braswell on the involvement of some of our people in i:his assistance. Approved For Release 2006/12116 :CIA-RDP75B00380R000400050015-1
