Approved For Release 20699 clA-RDP75B00380R000400050019-7 Journal - Office of Legislative Counsel Page 2 Wednesday - 5 December 1973 3. (Unclassified - GLC) I OTR, called and asked if we would explore the possibility of obtaining a Senator or staff member from the Senate to speak to the Advanced Intelligence Seminar on the Hill on 23 January 1974. I told him we would be glad to see what we could do. 4. (Unclassified - LLM) Col. Duvall, of Representative Daniel J. Flood's (D. , Pa.) office, called requesting a subscription to the FBIS Daily Report on the Western Hemisphere. I told Duvall that I thought we had recently received a written request for this from the Congressman and later confirmed to him that the first issue would be delivered on 12 December 1973, which was completely satisfactory to him. 6. (Secret - JGO) Met with Chairman Nedzi, Special Subcommittee on Intelligence, House Armed Services Committee, and responded to a number of questions that he had raised. I reviewed with him Pat Gray's testimony during his nomination hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee wherein he inserted in the record his letter of 19 June to H. R. Haldeman concerning the results of investigation of the burglary of the Watergate. I also gave him an additional copy of Howard Osborn's letter of 20 June 1972 to the Acting Director, FBI, wherein we made referencel Nedzi has no further question on this subject. I reviewed with him correspondence between the Director and Repre- sentative Lee Hamilton (D. , Ind.), Chairman of the Near East and South Asia Subcommittee, Foreign Affairs Committee, concerning the alert of American forces during the Middle East crisis. Nedzi was in complete accord with the position taken by the Director. I briefed him also on the inclusion of Secret Service personnel in the Agency's defensive driving course, the current situation in Thailand- SAT and Air America status as of today, and the Wall Street Journal item concerning He noted his appreciation at being kept currently informed on these matters . I received from Nedzi a copy of his remarks of 14 November before the Senior Seminar at Headquarters. I again thanked him for his appearance and for his handling of our retirement bill. 25X1 25X1 Approved For Release 2006/02/09 CIA-RDP75B0038OR000400050019-7 0 U 1 Approved For Release 2006/02/09 : CIA-RDP75B00380R000400050019-7 Journal - Office of Legislative Counsel Page 3 Wednesday - 5 December 1973 7. (Confidential - LLM) I called Bill Jones, Government Activities Subcommittee, House Committee on Government Operations, in follow up of my last contact with him concerning; ',AT --id L-4-=ameri a-R.nd told him that Air America was not certificated and responded to his question that the sale of SAT was going forward. He did not respond to my observation that he was maybe in a better position than I to know whether interveners were now satisfied. I asked Jones how he would like us to handle the letter to Chairman Jack Brooks (D. , Texas) concerning the Agency's disposal authority which GSA Administrator, A.rthur F. Sampson, had referred to Mr. Colby. In light of my prior offers in this connection, Jones said he would check with Brooks to find out what the next steps might be, i. e. , briefing of Brooks or of Jones, a written reply, or a possible joint meeting with Brooks, CIA and GSA. In connection with the possible joint meeting with GSA, Jones differed with my interpretation of Sampson's letter to Brooks, saying that he thought the GSA was saying that the Agency had no authority for the disposal, and I said, while the letter could be interpreted as such, I thought the letter recognized that perhaps the CIA was in the best position to present the legal authorities relied upon for disposal. Mr. Warner was advised and is preparing a legal brief setting forth the Agency's position for possible use with our oversight committees, if this becomes necessary. 8. (Confidential - JGO) Met with William Hogan, Counsel, Special Subcommittee on Intelligence, House Armed Services Committee, who told me that if we had no objection he would send the transcript of the hearing on S. 2714 on to the printers without review by the Agency. I told him we had no objection and we appreciated his expediting the publication so that the bill could be presented at the earliest possible moment to the full Committee. 25X1 Approved For Release 2006/02/09 : CIA-RDP75B00380R000400050019-7
