Colby, Maury, Nelson, Flannery and OGC reviewed with Fred D. Thompson,
Minority Counsel for the Senate Select Committee on Presidential Campaign
Activities, the substance of our lette h'm liftin the secrecy ixijunction
for an executive session interview of by Thoxripson
and Senator Howard H. Baker, Jr. (R. , Tenn.) Thom son said t:he letters
fully meet his needs, and hoped that the interview wit ould clear
up all loose ends and will effect delivery of the letters and his
attorney.
7. (Unclassified -LLM) Jixn Woolsey, General Counsel of the
Senate Armed Services Committee, called and said before he leavers the
Committee in the next ten days or so, he would like to finish out his work
with Senator John C. Stennis (D. , Miss.) on the upcoming hearings on the
1947 Act. In this connection he reviewed a number of the names in the
suggested witness list we had provided to learn of the individuals expertise
or experience in the subject matter-and, in response to his request:, I promised
to provide him further details on a number of the individuals.
8. (Confidential - JGO) Received a call from Thomas J. Reckford,
Staff Assistant on Intelligence, Comrnission on the Organization of the
Governrxient for the Conduct of Foreign Policy, who asked if I would check
whether a security clearance has been granted for Lt. Col. John Moellering,
a White House fellow, who is working for Ann Armstrong, one of the
Commissioners. After checking with the Office of Security, I told Reckford
that we have no record of any clearances or contact with Lt, Col. :Moellering,
I told hixn also that as a matter of policy we do not clear personal ,staff members
for access to compartmented information, I suggested to him that if it is
necessary to deal with Lt. Col. Moellering on classified information that his
request for clearances be forwarded to the Department of State for processing
by them? Reckford thanked me for the advice. A
