6. (Confidential - GLC) Called Marshall Wright, Assistant Secretary
of State for Congressional Relations, this morning and told him of the conver-
sation tha OCI, and I had with Senator Bennett Johnston
(D. , La.) and two members of his staff over the phone last night. I told him
that in view of Johnston's statements that State had not seen any cause for
concern regarding his tri we had backed off somewhat in advising him
against going, althoug pointed out the risks of a visit to
Wright said he had also backed off after he had talked with
and found tha~had seen no problems in the Senator's going to the
Middle East.
7. (Unclassified - GLC) Left with the staff of Representative James
Jones (D., Okla.) an unclassified map of the Middle East area which he might
find useful. I requested only that the Congressman not indicate the Agency
as the source of the map since we had only a limited supply of them.
8. (Internal Use Only - RW) Late in the day Mr. Lehman's office,
in the White House, called to Invite Mr. Maury to attend a meeting in
Mr. Timmon's office in the White House tomorrow at 9:30 a. m. to discuss
the Middle East situation. I confirmed that Mr. Maury would attend.
9. (Confidential - JGO) Met with Dr. John Brady, House Foreign
Affairs Committee staff, and received from him a draft Committee tch
labled "The Drug Traffic" (figure 2) for our review. F NARCOd,5x1
has been advised.
10., (Confidential - JGO) Talked to Garner J. Cline, Counsel,
Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship and International Law, House
Judiciary Committee, several times during the day concerning the briefing
on terrorism scheduled for Thursday, 18 October. Due to the press of
Committee business, it was finally necessary to cancel the briefing for
the present. Bill Nelson, DDO,and CI Staff, have been
advised.
11. (Internal Use Only - JGO) Received a call from Dorothy Fosdick,
Senate Permanent Investigations Subcommittee staff, who asked that I come
by in the morning to talk to her about a matter that cannot be discussed on the
telephone.
