Approved For Release 2006/08/09: CIA-RDP75B00380R000400140041-2 Journal - Office of Legislative Counsel Page 2 Monday - 15 January 1973 4.1 1 Met with Frank Slatinshek, Chief Counsel, House Arme Services Committee, whom I briefed on latest developments regarding Chinese strategic missile deployment, anti-aircraft missiles in North Vietnam, a Soviet navy installation in Cuba and Soviet vessels in Berbera. Calling attention to recent press stories, I reminded Slatinshek of my earlier briefing describing our relationship with one of the Cuban Watergate defendents. In response to my question about plans for an intelligence briefing of the full Committee, Slatinshek said that in view of concern about the security of certain new members he thought the Chairman might like to hold such briefings to non-sensitive matters. 5 I I Delivered to the office of James Gehrig, Senate Aeronautical and pace Sciences Committee staff, an agenda for Senator Moss who is scheduled to visit Headquarters on 19 January. 25X1 6, ick Cook, Spe t o - t h e . President for Legislative Affairs o e) called regarding the Kurdakov case. I referred him td 7.1 ick Cook, of the White House staff, asked if we knew any of the facts surrounding the death of Sergey Kurdakov. :I told Cook that while we had no direct involvement in this case, on the basis of an inquiry from Senator Thurmond's office, we made inquiry and learned that Kurdakov had acquired a revolver for his protection and that on or about New Year's eve in the presence of a female friend and presumably as a prank put the revolver to his head. Under the mistaken impression that the chamber was empty, Kurdakov squeezed the trigger and accidentally shot himself. I emphasized that this information was acquired by us secondhand more than a week ago and we could not attest to its accuracy. MORKIDIF Approved For Release 2006/08/09: CIA-RDP75B00380R000400140041-2
