7. Attempted to call Tom Korologos,
Deputy Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs, on the Administration's
strategy to sustain the Presidential veto of the Freedom of Information Act
amendments. In his absence from the city, a message was e t or Pat
O'Donnell, Special Assistant to the President, to call.

8. Called Max Friedersdorf, Deputy
Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs, who told me that he
agrees that the House will override the Freedom of Information Act
amendments but that there might be s-ufficien-f support in the Senate to sustain
the veto or force a compromise on the most objectionable features, although.
there is some question as to whether some of the support has eroded by the
lameduckers who have been defeated and may not be happy with the Administration
for that reason. Friedersdorf promised, to pass on our concern and willingness
to help to Pat O'Donnell, Special Assistant to the President, during Tom
Korologos' absence from the city. Friedersdorf also said Korologos had
similar feelings that we could do something in the Senate and thought that a 25X1
contact with Korologos,when he returns early next week, would be beneficial.
