CIA INTERNAL USE ONLY
CONFIDENTIAL
14. JGO) Received from Ralph Preston, House
Appropriations Committee staff, follow up questions concerning the
Agency budget. Mr. Tams, Comptroller, has been advised.
As for the possible visit to NPIC, Preston indicated that
he does not see any possibility of a visit by Chairman George H. Mahon
but that he may well be able to schedule a visit for Representative
William E. Minshall (R. , Ohio) and himself in about two weeks. I told
him I would remind him.
Preston noted in passing that he had briefed the Chairman on
Senator John L. McClellan's (D. , Ark. ) statement in the "Congressional
Record" concerning SPna+r? zar.11",.. (T) W Q t n mendrn
to the military procurement bill, and that Chairman Mahon had been
somewhat philosophical about the reporting of the membership of the
House Committee. 25X1
15. JGO) Together with met with
L. James Kronfeld, Staff Counsel, Subcommittee on Foreign Operations
and Government Information, House Committee on Government Operations,
and discussed with him the Senate provisions amending the Freedom of
Information bill. nd Kronfeld appeared to be of one
mind both as to the import of the amendments and possible legislative
history that can be developed in the Agency's interest. It is planned to
meet with him the latter part of next week to discuss with him suggested
language for inclusion in the conference report.
16. JGO) Met briefly with William G. Phillips, Staff
Director, Su committee on Foreign Operations and Government Information,
House Committee on Government Operations, concerning the transcript of
the hearings of Wednesday, 5 June. Phillips said he would not be available
to discuss the transcripts before Monday, 17 June, and asked that I gave
him a call early in the week of 17 June at which time we will get together.
