Approved For Release 2006/10/11 : CIA-RDP75B00380R000700040013-1 Journal - Office of Legislative Counsel Wednesday - 7 Au 4 4- y 1, Page 4 12. 25X1 Jim Calloway, Counsel, Senate Appropria- tions Committee, called to say that Nate Miller, of their staff, was preparing a statement for the Chairman indicating that recent disclosures had vindicated the Agency's position and testimony with respect to its alleged involvement in Watergate matters. Calloway said that Miller would like to talk with me to check on some of the facts and I agreed to give Miller a call. I was unable to reach him today but left a message for him to call me tomorrow. 13. Received a call from Fred Thompson, 25X1 on Senator Baker's Watergate Committee Minority staff. Thompson said they are preparing their records for referral to the Library of Congress for storage and would like to talk to us about limiting access to the Agency m material involved. I said tha bor I would be in touch with him25X1 within the next few days. IL-said there was no rush. 14. 25X1 In a brief conversation Jane McMullan, Senate App one mi ee staff, mentioned that the Defense Subcommitte .cuprianons %ovould be marking up the Defense appropriations bill on Friday and it would go before the full Committee next Tuesday. 25X1 15. Called Maurice Pujol, on the staff of Senator Proxmire's Subcommittee on Housing and Urban Development, Space, Science, and Veterans, Appropriations Committee, to discuss Proxmire's letter of 30 July asking that we brief the Subcommittee on the Soviet space program. Pujol said he knew absolutely nothing about the letter and assumed that it was written by Ron Tammen, Legislative Assistant to Senator Proxmire. He suggested that I call Tammen and tell him that Pujol knew nothing about it and recommended that I call him. I briefed Pujol on some of the ground rules that would be necessary for such a briefing and he said he could understand the reasons for them, but that I would have to take the matter up with Tammen at this point. ~,,// I also gave Pujol a fillin on our concern about section 406 of the HUD /appropriations bill (H. R. 15572). Pujol said this section was Ron Tammen's idea and had been drafted by him. He said he was sure the HUD, NASA, and other witnesses who had testified on the bill had no idea that Proxmire would place such a broad prohibition in the bill. _xa?
