Received a call from Representative Bob Wilson (R. , Calif. ) who asked if we would arrange for a geographic type briefing for two young scientist constituents Arrangements were made through OCI, for a meeting with Jack King, OBGI, at the Magazine Building at 2:00 p.m. 7. Received a call from Sally Weaver, Assistant to Representative Benjamin Blackburn (R. , Ga. ), who requested detailed information concerning escapees and prisoners killed in escape attempts from the Soviet bloc countries, China, Chile, etc. Miss Weaver indicated that a letter request had been made to Secretary of State, which she understood was being transferred to this Agency for action. After checking with OCI, I called Stanton D. Anderson, Office of Legislative Affairs, Department of State. Anderson said he would run the letter down and agreed that it was not a matter for transfer to this Agency for action. Miss Weaver will look to the Department of State for a response to Representative Blackburn's original request. was advised. 8. In the company of Scott Breckinridge, Deputy Inspector General, attended a meeting at State Department with representatives of INR, including Mr. George Denney, Deputy Director, Bureau of Intelligence and Research, Department of State, Marvin Gentile, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Security, Department of State, and Tom Smith, FBI, to consider FBI's objections to State's proposed report. As a result of the meeting, State's report will be substantially revised, the extent depending upon the outcome of Thursday's session between the Attorney General and the Muskie Surveillance Subcommittee. See Memorandum for Record for details. 9. Called Al Friendly, Counsel, Subcommittee on Intergovernmental Relations, Committee on Government Operations, and told him that it is doubtful that OMB will have cleared our views on Senate bills S. 1726, S. 2451, 3399 and S. 3393, by the deadline of 22 May, which caused him no great concern.
