cated that General Clark felt rather strongly that he must satisfy himself with
regard to our covert activities and that he could not accept the Doolittle re-
port in this regard without personal verification. Mr. Dulles said that while
he had no personl objection to this he thought that the President rather re-
garded our covert activities as his personal business and not that of the legis-
lative branch of the Government and suggested that he and General Clark sit
down and talk to the President about the matter.
7. Shef Edwards telephoned to say that even though he had denied the
Clark Committee representatives permission to take top secret material back to
their offices he felt that it was necessary to put a guard over there twenty-
