Reported on the dinner he attended in New York on Monday, 9 July, at which representatives of the Ford and Rockefeller Foundations were present. A separate memorandum on this has been prepared. Mr? Wisner: 25X1A9a 25X1A9a a, Noted he had received a rather urgent call from Howard Furnas of State seeking guidance as to what the Secretary of State should say at his press conference today should the press raise the Soviet blasts regarding "US agents inciting Poznan riots". After some discussion it was agreed Mr. Furnes would. be informed that if this question comes up the Secretary would merely reply that the Polish government itself has already admitted that the riots were due to bad working conditions and therefore the propagandistic nature of the blasts was perfectly obvious. b, Noted that after a talk with Messrs* and 25X1A9a he felt he now understood the Syrian situation much better and suggested the Director would also benefit by such a briefing. The Director indicated he would see these two officers.
