Kirkpatrick, Sheldon, (en. a) Referred to a cable from containing 25X1A6a a report on the economic situation Ear and after some discussion it was agreed that a sanitized round-up on this matter would be prepared by DD/I in coordination with DD/P for dis- cussion at the luncheon tomorrow the Director is giving for representatives of the Wail Street Journal. 25X1A b) Noted while in New York yesterday he had talked with F_ I regarding the Soviet resolution to the U.N. calling for an investigation of the Russian charge that the U.S. had intervened in internal Hungarian affairs and incited the people to riot. The Director said the U.S. reply, that we would welcome such an investigation provided a U.N. team was allowed to go into Hungary to make it, was in his opinion an excellent opportunity to turn the tables an the soviets. He commented probably there was nothing much that coWd be done about this until after Christmas. ACTION: Df/p c) Referred to a report that Moscow University students are condemning the Soviet regime and asked whether we should not stet out something ou this.
