Approved For Release a?pWlt /&B*CI t 00183R000?.00090054-6 DD/S of the Public Buildings Service where we met with Max Abramovitz and his people. Agreement was reached on practically all phases of change in the design, and I see no reason why Harrison & Abramovitz should be held up at all in the future. In summary Went to New York along withi and Messrs. Hunter and Ambrose a. the first floor cantilever has been eliminated; b, the third and seventh floor cantilevers have been retained; c. the precast concrete window frames have been modified so as to be entirely satisfactory to the Public Buildings Service and H. S. who have asked Harrison & Abramovitz to draw their specifications so that the windows might be made of steel or aluminum if such funds are avail- able; d. we will retain the auditorium; however, it will be written in the specifications so as to provide for an alternate bid permitting its elim- ination if funds are not available; e. the separate building for the cafeteria is to be eliminated and the cafeteria is to be moved into the main building; f, the changes in the "curve" design are all now satisfactory to PBS except for the left side (as you look at the building from the front). Max has agreed to adjust this somewhat, but the details have not yet been agreed upon. Two very important principles agreed to were that ---------- b. that any savings which could be developed would be put into the contingency rather than for us to try to continue to adjust and provide for more square feet of construction. They will then submit their tentatives on the 15th of June and we will forward the information back to them as rapidly as possible, hoping to get everything back to them by 8 July. They will then need about seven months to complete detailed drawings, which brings us up to 1 Febru- ary. Allowing for from six to twelve weeks for the awarding of a contract, it will then be 1 May 1958 before we can expect a contract to be awarded. I emphasized that I thought this was very unfortunate and hoped very much that we could let a contract for site preparation, including the roads, sometime this Summer or Fall. Without committing themselves, Harrison & Abramovitz feel that we might be able to do this by September. to prepare a more detailed Memorandum for the Record on this subject.)
