Approved For Release-2.001/03/30 : _J RO. 76-00183RW0200100210-0 25X1A 25X1A9a 25X1A6a DD/S 2 April 1957 1. Asked to obtain more specific guidance from Messrs. Nash or Koren as to what kind of briefing Mr. Nash expected from CIA. Harry said that he had talked to Barney Koren who suggested that no plans be made until he and Mr. Nash had re- turned from their trip to Nassau, Trinidad, etc., after which they would probably have a better idea of just what they wanted. 2. Mr. Townsend called again concerning the speaking invitation to Mr. Dulles from the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce. Although he did not so indicate in his letter, apparently he wants to include Mrs. Dulles in the invitation, as well as Mrs. White and me. I told him that I had planned to be out of town on the 29th and 30th and doubted very seriously that I could make it. 25X1A9a 25X1A 4. Talked to Bob Macy about the draft letter to the President concerning our new building on which we had asked for his comments. He said that he had shown the letter to Mr. Brundage who thought that we should cut down the number of people to fit the building. I told Bob that this would be an impossibility. He asked me not to take any action on this information and promised more definite and specific comments tomorrow. 25X1A6a 6. We also discussed what disciplinary action would be taken against those - chiefs who were in charge of -during the time when Government gasoline was being sold and the profits were not being picked up in Government accounts. I told General Approved For Release 2001/03/30 : CIA-RDP76-00183R000200100210-0 Approved For Release-2001/031,30 CIA-RDP76-00183RL)00200100210-0 25X1A9a 25X1A9a that I realized that this had happened at a time when we had to send out 25X1 A peop e who were not really experienced in but that I did not feel that we could condone this practice in any case. I said I felt very strongly that even. without training any mature person who was qualified to be a_ chief should have known that 25X1 A this was highly illegal. I approved of his admonishing the people involved orally if he so desired, but said that I very definitely felt that some disciplinary action should be taken. 25X1A9a 7. Lunched with to talk about his replacement, etc. He thinks that either would be very good and highly acceptable to the 25X1A9a DD/P area. We discussed the problem of how to replace and he suggest- 25X1A9a ed the possibility of I am not sure how practical this is, but it is probably worth exploring since Vernon undoubtedly would be the best choice as his replacement if we could make the other shifts that would be necessary. Despite what I had told him previously, Ken was still planning somewhat vaguely to be released from his present position in October. I told him that I did not see how this could be done 25X1A6a and also did not see why it would take a period of fifteen months to get him ready for his assignment in _ I said that he should count on being released sometime after the first of the year.
