Approved For Release 2002/05/0 P76-00183R000200110048-0 DIARY NOTES DD SJ 9 September 1957 1. Mr. Dulles was present at the Deputies' Meeting and gave a very brief run- down on his trip. He suggested that we give some thought to providing "incentive ed- ucational trips" for our personnel overseas and amplified this statement by pointing out that he thought we ought to assist our employees in absorbing all of the culture, tradi- tion, etc., in the areas of their assignments. He said that in many cases our people could not afford such trips and that he felt we ought to assist them if we could. Mr. Kirkpatrick was asked to look into this; however, I should also follow up on it with Ken and the people in the DD/P area. I 2. Mr. Dulles again emphasized his disapproval of the extensive use of pseudo- 25X1A6a nyms and said that while he was in~ the Station got some important cables contain- ing pseudonyms which meant absolute y nothing to personnel receiving them. 3. General Cabell said that Under Secretary of the Air Force Maclntyre had 25X1A9a called to his attention a Mr. News, who was available for assignment. No interest was expressed by any of the Deputy Directors, but this raised a question as to whether or not we used the IBM system in connection with our file of applicants. I undertook to look into this and have found that, generally 25X1A9a speaking, we do; however, I have asked to give me a brief note on just how good our system is.
