DIARY NOTES
DD 13 March 1958
1. It has been announced that Mr. Percival Brundage is resigning as Director
of the Budget and that Mr. Maurice H. Stans will be his successor; consequently, I
have asked Ed Saunders to draft appropriate letters to Messrs. Brundage and Stares
for the Director's signature.
2. Met with to discuss advances---which are in
effect loans---to employees going to certain stations in- It was agreed that
we should continue to make such loans when it is necessary for these employees to
take along substantial quantities of supplies, such as food and clothing, which are
not available in this area. It was also agreed, however, that employees should ren-
der accountings for such loans prior to their departure from the field. We have an
obligation on the one hand to insure that these individuals and their families have
the necessities of life, and on the other to insure that we do not permit appropriated
funds to be used for loans to finance the purchase of automobiles, pay off old debts,
etc.
