1. At the Deputies' Meeting I raised the question of trip to
Europe with the Air Force. There seemed to be no strong feelings for or against
his going and the Director left it up to me and General Cabell to decide.
2. The Director announced that on his trip to Europe he had heard a number
of complimentary remarks concerning the assistance which Headquarters had rendered
to our people overseas when they were in need; for example, illnesses and deaths in
families, etc. He asked Mr. Kirkpatrick to study this question further to see what
he might recommend in the way of a focal point in the Agency which dependents of our
overseas employees located in the States might contact in case of trouble.
3. I again reminded the Director of our obligation to come up with some sug-
gestions for the House Appropriations Committee as to how they might be kept better
briefed. He again said that he would take this up with the White House.
