Approved For Release 20QW09/08 : Cl k~l El0183R0003000207-7 DD/ S 24 September 1958 eported that he is sending two auditors to to 25X1A6a look into Project - and the WH Division has requested that he go down later. He also raised the question with me of extra per diem for some of his auditors who travel a great deal and who claim that they are out of pocket. I told him that I would prefer to put them on an actual expense basis and asked him to explore the feasibility of this and advise me within a few days. 2. I had several conversations with George Carey, Office of Operations, and General Cabell concerning ex gratia privileges on us the "double cross" and proposed to take up 25X1A9a 25X1A9a However, we decided to wait a few egotiations are better known. In any case George and Bob Amory are both in this matter with General Cabell now and I see no reason for me to continue. 3. I met with concerning their recommendation that we lay on a "Files Clean-up Campaign" and agreed to launch such a Campaign at the first Senior Staff Meeting in January. 4. Bob Macy telephoned to follow up on the meeting he had with the Director two or three months ago concerning the Vice President's desire to have us do more in the educational field. After some checking I found that the Office of the Deputy Director (Plans) had produced a good report for the Director on what we are now doing but that the Director had not taken any action concerning it. (As of now is in 25 1 9a direct touch with General Cushman, who is an Assistant to the Vice President, and is sending over a report. Bob Macy, Bureau of the Budget, has been so advised.) 5. Mr. Macy also said he understood that we were comin in for a sharp increase in our budget and that a large part of this increase was due to project. He repeated his belief that we should give serious consideration in having this project financed by the Department of Defense. I mentioned this to the Director but I am sure that he does not desire to make any change. 6. Mr. Macy also expressed an interest in visiting our building site, and I agreed to get in touch with him the next time I go out.
