DIARY NOTES
25X1A
DD/S 27 October 1959
1. Congressman Joel T. Broyhill, accompanied by Mr. R. Wade Pearson of
Berlo Caterers, Incorporated, was in to see me. Congressman Broyhill was quite
disappointed that Berlo Caterers had not received the vending machine concession
in our new building. Our conversation lasted for more than an hour and he was
quite outspoken in expressing his belief that I ought to see that his constituent got
preferential treatment. While our entire conversation was friendly I made it clear
that his constituents would have to be fully competitive with other firms interested
in doing business with us and that I could not show preferential treatment unless they
were in all other respects as good as any other competitor.
