1. At the Deputies' Meeting the Director indicated his interest in arranging a
luncheon sometime soon with our Builder, Charles Tompkins.
making a tri to the West Coast to see the Project WALNUT equipment. X1A5a1
head of the here in Washington, had also suggested to me earlier that he
would like to make a joint trip to the West Coast to see this equipment. I told Paul
that I would like to do this and would try to work out some date early in July.
3. The Bureau of the Budget has queried us as to whether or not we are going tg5X1A1a
lower our budget projection estimates as a result of a recent conference which the
Director attended at the White House. I discussed this matter with the Director who said
that we should point out to the Bureau that the special project for Mr. Bissell
would, of course, have to be approved on the highest level and that this amount might
vary depending on the financial contribution made to the project by the Department of 25XIAIa
Defense. He also said that we should tell the Bureau that reserve is,
of course, again subject to a policy decision by the President as to how large this fund
should be. With these two exceptions the Director did not wish to lower the estimates
at this time.
4. Also at the Deputies' Meeting the Director said that a Princeton classmate by
the name of Alex Stevens was now a member of the National Capital Planning Commission
and wanted me to find out his address so that he could write him a letter. 1A9a
Building Planning Staff, is working on this; however, Lyman Kirkpatrick told me that he
was unable to find any Alex Stevens in the Princeton Alumni Directory.)
