hree grade GS-18s I had been willing to consider; i.e., 5X1A9a
25X1 A9-I told Dick that based upon Doctor Tietjen's recommendation, I would not want t25X1 Aga
considei Dick felt quite strongly that -would not be a good choice. He 25X1A9a
25X1 A9 agreed with me that -would be the best choice but was not optimistic that-
25X1A9a ould be persuaded to take the job. He suggested that we consider 25X1A9a
but after some discussion we seemed to be in general agree-
25X1 A9ament tha were at least as well if not better qualified
than any of these candidates and that if this was, in fact, the case, they were entitled
to the position. I told Dick that I would be very glad to consideias the Deputy25X1A9a
25X1 A9a Director of Personnel if were appointed Director. He is going to dis-
cuss the matter further with Dick Bissell and get in touch with me again.
2. Gordon Stewart advised me that the Office of Personnel had now received an
25X1A9a official inquiry from the Civil Service Commission concerning the circumstances under
was separated from the Agency. We agreed that he should send Ben
mission with a copy of Bob Amory's memorandum, based upon which
our official action was taken. If this does not satisfy the Commission then Bob should be
requested to meet with their representative to furnish further details.
