John Tietjen called to say that he was going on leave and probably wouldn't be back until the first of July. He also said that he was sending over a proposed pol- icy paper on sending dependents overseas. 2. John also talked to me about the possibility of sending- to some of gage. senor officer schools. I told him that I thought it might be more appropriate for Bill to attend some school where Medical Administrative Officers are trained or some school of hospital administration rather than to one of the service staff colleges. He agreed with this general idea, and I told him that I would be sympathetic to any pro- posals along this line. 3. I spent considerable time talking with the Director, Bob Amory, and others about the intercom system in the new building. Bob had re- ceived some misinformation to the effect that there would be no intercom between his office and the Director's, had shot from the hip, and got the Director excited. At the close of the day I got things back on the track and everyone was satisfied that the inter- com system would be entirely adequate in the new building. 1X7 25X1A9a 6. telephoned at the request of the Director to say that Mrs. Dulles was planning to give a luncheon for some of the more senior girls in the Agency but that the Director was worried about the possible criticism which mightd'rise in these girls' taking two hours off from work in the middle of the day. I told Jack that if they were grade GS-12's and above they were not working by the clock anyway and didn't normaily get paid for overtime.
