DIARY NOTES

1. At the Deputies' Meeting this morning:
27 November 1961
a. Bob Amory complained because the Credit Union at the new building
was closed at 1400 hours last Friday, 24 November, whereas the Notice
that we had published indicated it would remain open until 1500 hours. I
25X1A9a have since discussed this matter with and it has been agreed
that the Credit Union would remain open until 1500 hours on paydays and
on Mondays following paydays. I feel strongly that we should adjust our
Credit Union hours to accommodate our personnel in the new building since
we are committed rather firmly to furnish adequate check-cashing facilities.
b. Bob Amory also suggested that we have U. S. mail boxes placed near
the several entrances to the new building. I have thought about this myself,
and at this point we have arranged to have this done rather promptly; this
mail will be serviced by the McLean Post Office.
c. The Director inquired as to whether everyone in the room was
25X1 A29 cleared for ' I told him that I didn't know what it was so I
didn't know whether I was cleared. In the ensuing discussion, I still didn't
find out what it was, so I should check to find out whether I am cleared for
this Project and just what it is all about.
d. Mr. Dulles announced that Mr. McCone would be sworn in at the
White House at 11:30 A. M. on Wednesday, 29 November. He also announced
that immediately after the relinquishment of his duties as Director of Central
Intelligence he would move to the smaller office now occupied by Mr. McCone;
further, that he intended ID make a press release indicating that he would reas -
sociate himself with his old law firm.
e. Bob Amory announced that George Carey had set aside an office at
1717 H Street, N. W , which was available to anyone in the Agency who found
himself downtown in need of an office.
2. We had a very interesting party at the Alibi Club in honor of Mr. Dulles this
evening at which General Cabell presented a silver tray to Mr. Dulles from those of us
who attended the party. I presented his old chair, and Mr. Kirkpatrick presented the
bust which Robert M. Coffin had done of the Director.

25X1A9a 4. I met with Jim Garrison, to discuss space
for those components not moving to the new building. I thought that they had a good
schedule; however, I pointed out that I wanted to leave some flexibility in the East
Building and the Admin Building until we could get a more definite indication from the
Director as to what his desires for downtown office space would be.
5. I talked with Gates Lloyd and Larry Houston about the preparation of a paper
giving the legislative history of the salaries of the Director of Central Intelligence and
the Deputy Director, as well as the history of our Executive Pay Scale. (As of Friday,
1 December, this paper had been completed and forwarded to the Director.)
