DIARY NOTES
25X1A9a 1 reported that Congressman Edgar W. Hiestand, Republican
from California, came to the building on Saturday afternoon, 17 February, told the
guard that he wanted to see the building, was admitted, drove around for fifteen min-
utes or so, and then left without commenting.
25X1A9a 2. reported that General Taylor would like to visit 25X1A6a
within the next few days and that we might get as little as two hours advance notice. 25X1A9a
I told Bill that I would like to be there if we got sufficient notice; if not,

about 1200 hours on Saturday, 17 February, I heard
4, advised me that the Director has agreed on the space layout
for his office on the seventh floor, and the necessary information has been furnished
In making this decision, the Director took five or six rooms
formerly assigned to the Inspector General. Kirk saw no point in moving to the
seventh floor if the office was going to have to split up and would prefer that it be
located elsewhere, along with the Audit Staff. The Director also said that General
group should be left alone for the moment. This adds up to several space
pro ems to be settled soon. They are as follows: What to do with the IG Staff; what
to do with the remainder of General - Staff; and what to do with the new
Deputy Director for Research and Development and the staff that will be assigned to
him.
5. reported that Mr . was applying for disability retire -
ment, and it was his understanding that this would be effective as of 9 February. Bert
also reported that they have hired a colored stenographer. She is to be transferred
from sometime in the near future.

bout the conduct of one of our auditors who stopped

8. reported that the Director has inspected the space at East
Building which we had recommended for his downtown office and liked it. He wanted
us to go ahead and fix it up as soon as the Board of Inquiry moved out. Jack specifi-
cally said that we should not worry about a central air conditioning package sinrr]he
was sure that the window units would be entirely satisfactory to the Director.

designatin as the responsible official in CIA to work out the de-
tails of the problem. The Director expressed the desire
