2. I have agreed with Matt Baird that will be appointed
Acting Chief of Support He should clear y understand, however,
that this is a temporary appointment, and a more senior Support officer will be
assigned to this position when oneis available.
3. Johnny Bross called to alert me to the fact that I might be subpoenaed as
a witness in a pending suit having to do with rezoning of the Merrywood estate in
Fairfax County. He also advised me that they were restudying their space situa-
tion and might want to request some changes.
Garrison and I met with Pete Scoville, Jim Cunningham,- 25X1A9a
to discuss contracting activities of the Office of Special Activities, DD/R.
Dr. Scoville wanted to draw more assistance from the Office of Logistics than has
been customary; however, he preferred to retain the organizational arrangement
and accept the responsibility as Mr ad done in the past. (Jim Cunningham
is to draft the paper outlining the exist. nag arrangement, after which Dr. Scoville
and I will discuss the matter with General Carter.)
5. The Director lunched with the Deputy Directors and other key officials
today just prior to his departure for approximately one month. He asked me the
25X1A6d status of I told him we were 5 per cent ahead of schedule and, bar-
ring some unforeseen problem, expected to complete the project on schedule.
He was interested in the status of equipment for the building. I assured him that
all equipment had been bought and that a great deal of it was on hand in a building
25X1A6d very close to I also told him that Art Lundahl thought that it was
perfectly feasible to install this equipment and to have it in operation in accord-
ance with our current plan.

than Class A furniture. (I have so advised and Jim Garrison.) 25X1A9a
25X1A9a 7. Emmett Echols, and I met briefly with General Carter to
discuss the hearing on our early retirement legislation with Mr. Vinson's House
Armed Services Committee on Tuesday, 28 August. It was agreed that John,
25X1A9a Emmett, and were to accompany General Carter to the hearing,
as well as to a meeting with Bob Smart, the Chief Counsel, on Monday, 27 August.
(Emmett and John are preparing the necessary papers.)
8. Emmett Echols telephoned to say that he had some information to the
25X1A9a effect that was shopping elsewhere for a job. I told Emmett that he
should call in Dan and have a frank talk with him as to just what all this is about.
