I discussed with Emmett Echols and Mr. Kirkpatrick the White House summer employee program, and we agreed that: a. We will not supply CIA brochures to be placed in the packets to be presented to some 6, 000 summer employees. b. Our summer employees will not participate in the program, which would require their transportation to the Washington Coliseum on six different occasions and would take about a half day on each occasion. I also advised Kirk that, while the Agency had requested time on the program for someone to speak on careers in intelligence, they apparently were not going to accept our suggestion. 2. old me yesterday that we had had about, 100 of our summer employees cancel at the last moment. (I spoke to Emmett about this and asked that he look into it.) 25X1A9a 3. Emmett Echols talked to me about Kirk's memorandum of October 25X1A 1962 which forwarded-comments on our selections for senior officer 25X1 A9a schools. Inasmuch as this relates very closely to the other paper which ^ is working on having to do with the development of a generalist corps, I authorized him to talk to Kirk about it, at which time he should request a brief extension on the deadline (1 July 1963). 25X1A9a 4. I talked to Matt Baird about the manpower study and asked him to prepare a memorandum for my signature requesting the additional positions, which he estimated would be necessary to carry on t Pe anticipated workload on the basis of a 40-hour work week.
