SUET ' Approved For Release 2Q 1/07/28 : CIA-RDP76-00183R0004000 069-2 DIARY NOTES DD/S 11 June 1963 1. At the Executive Committee Meeting the Director mentioned the publicity in the Washington Post this morning concerning Senator Church's attempt to deliver a letter to him and asked Larry Houston to look into this and give him a memorandum. Later the Director told Larry not to write the memorandum; in lieu thereof the Director dictated a letter to Senator Church 25X1A which ttempted to deliver. He saw Ward Hower, Senator Church's administrative assistant. According to Mr. Hower, the Senator's secretary, Mrs. Ward, telephoned the Agency switchboard on Wednesday, 5 June, at about 3:30 p.m. and asked whether a letter could be delivered downtown as well as at Langley. According to Mrs. Ward, she was informed that the letter could be delivered to our downtown office. The riding page was then dispatched and the rest of the story is in the newspaper. (Senator Church apparently thinks the whole thing is somewhat comical and is not seriously concerned about it.) I undertook to take over the investigation and have asked the Chief Operator to advise us by tomorrow just what did happen if they can remember. I have also asked Bob Bannerman to get in touch with the Post Office Department and inter- view the page whom they furnished. 25X1A9a 3. Richard Fox, of the Department of State Personnel Office, telephoned at the request of Bill Crockett to talk to me about our co-op program. I asked Emmett Echols to have someone get in touch with Mr. Fox during the course of the day and go into any detail he wished. 25X1A9a 25X1 A6a 4. I asked to report to me the status of the water situation at-and plans for changing the air conditioning system in the Director's office.
