Approved For Release 2006/01/10 : G - -00183RD 00070035-7 DD/S DIARY NOTES 1. At the Executive Committee Meeting this morning Dick Helms an- nounced that he had received a call from Bill Crockett at the Department of State who was in search of a new Director of Security. The Director said that the Agency should help the Department if we could but that we were under no pressure to do so if it would be harmful to the Agency. After con- sultation with Bob Bannerman I notified Dick Helms that we thought ing with him, he would be willing to consider the position. I also told Dick that I thought Major General John M. Breight (Retired), who was recently the Director of the Office of Security Investigations for the Air Force, might make a good candidate. He was willing to pass along both of these names. was qualified for the position and that, if they were interested in talk- 2. 0 was in to advise me that after careful consideration he thought that he could best serve the Agency at this time by continuing in his present position as Chief, Audit Staff. 3. Jim Garrison reported that he had had a very encouraging meeting with the GSA people yesterday about our heating and air conditioning sys- tems. I asked him to send along a brief memorandum which I could forward to the front office. 4. Jim Garrison reported that al f the White House (formerly an Office of Logistics employee) brought all of the necessary material to our Printing Services Division and requested that 50, 000 pictures of President Kennedy be made. This will cost us only about $100 in labor. I told Jim that this was all right but asked him to send me a copy of the picture so that I could report on this action. 5. I advised Dick Helms that, in addition to the senior executive pay positions furnished him in my recent memorandum, he still had four vacant Chief of Station positions. I also told him that if he would stop by sometime I would be glad to show him the entire list. Dick accepted the change in Tracy Barnes' status as being entirely proper and asked that the Office of Personnel take the necessary action. (I asked to do this.)
